Another shareware cult classic, Jetpack was and is a great platform game in the vein of Lode Runner and Jumpman. And there was a totally awesome Christmas edition with 10 new levels and the ability to control a jetpack-wielding Santa Claus! And no, there is no relation to the Jetpac and Jetman games by Ultimate Play The Game.
The Jetpack games are now freeware! Get them from Adept Software and RGB:
You can also download the original shareware Christmas Special:

Always fun to watch Santa explode into a pink mist upon death
Had this along with Street Rod II on a 386 PS/2 in 6th grade. I would come to class early just to play these games. Never played the original Jetpack though. This really takes me back!
Man!! i used to play this when i was 9 years old. Damn!!! nice memories! Thank you for the video!
OMG I loved this game! The screaming thou when I died always freaked me out. And when I was able to trap rockets, bots and springs with wall drilling at the right time gave me so much joy!
To play it easier we always held the drill key while moving or flying. That kept you going in a straight horizontal or vertical line.
Hi😁
I remember to play Jetpack for so many hours, it was awesome.
Fuck yeah. Gut Times gut Times.
This needs a re release on GOG!
I played the original I think, but I was too young to enjoy or understand.
I always mistook this for Rare's game.
I remember and played this in our school's computer lab in the mid/late 90s!
Thank you clint…. 8 yrs later.
Fuuuuuck I totally forgot about this game! I made all kinds of levels!!
Jetpack 2 is out in case you didn't know. Actually released a year ago yesterday.
to this day, Jetpack is one of my favourite DOS platformers. The level design is always great and the level editor got me into level design
Are you going to talk about jetpack 2?
I loved this game as a kid. never played the christmass version tho
I thought this game was magical as a kid.
Oh, I remember this.
Heck, back in the day we got a graph paper book and drew level 7 or 9.. Finished it right as I finally managed to get past the level and no longer needed it. Still, build the level in the level editor so we could play it whenever we wanted.
I wish I knew about those Mario texture packs and stuff back in the day. I wonder how hard it is to mod jetpack. It might be fun to make my own texture pack
wow I loved this game as a kid. Thank you for bringing back memories!

0:12 [Abrupt change to the Tyrian level theme] Ba-da-dum, ba-da buh-ba ba-dum!
Have you ever actually tried Tyrian's christmas mode? If you launch the game during December, even in DOSBox, the game will show a command prompt saying "Christmas has been detected. Activate Christmas? [Y/N]"
I've always been confused as to why the graphic swap for the Christmas Special is different from the one included in the full version download.
Those screams scared the crap out of me
God damn I played jet pack for hours. It was such an addictive game and that level editor was so fun.
I had the version where Santa left presents under the tree.
This was one of my absolute favourite games as a kid. I was only about 5 or 6 when I first played it. I was very bad at it because I was so young, so I used the level editor to make levels that had no enemies and were just filled with gems. And I'd feel very proud of myself when I got a high score with no difficulty xD
♪ It made a generation who can code. A bubble before proper consoles, who all know That the games you get today, well they might be very flash, but they'll never beat the thrill of getting through Jetpack! Oh Hey Hey, 16K, What does that get you today? You need more than that for a letter. Old school RAM packs are much better. For n=0 to 2. Those were the days. Next n. ♪
Yet another game, that I had a hazy recollection of, now remembered
Great review for a great DOS game! If you have a sweet tooth for platform games, and games with retro-style graphics, there's no reason you shouldn't try this under-appreciated classic! Great gameplay, excellent level editor, amazing replayability… I could go on all day.
Anyways, I'd like to plug my level design contest on GOG.com here, just in case anyone is interested: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/bmf59s_level_design_contest_1_jetpack/page1
Speaking of GOG.com, I'd also like to encourage people to vote for the sequel here: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/jetpack_2
